Iberoamerica
A Musical journey from Spain through Latin America performed by Ed Moss

'Iberoamerica' takes the audience on an amazing musical journey of the guitar and percussion. It features an amazing mix of folk, jazz, and classical music from Spain, Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Chile and Bolivia.

From the majestic sounds of the Spanish classical guitar to the fire and passion of the flamenco. Onwards to South America with the passion and sensuality of the Argentinian tango. On to the beautiful folkloric music of the Andes and the rainforests where the sounds of the Indigenous spirit merges with the Spanish folk songs brought over by the Spanish 'Conquistadores'. Shortly after the Spanish arrived on the South American continent African slaves were brought to the continent. They combined their rhythms with the European settlers melodies resulting in the ryhthmic tropical forms of music such as the samba and the cool and laid back Bossa Nova of Brazil. The joropo of Venezuela also resulted from this fusion. And not to mention the irresistable and ever so popular Cuban sounds of the son, cha cha cha, bolero which later evolved into the popular salsa music of today. And Finally the hot and spicy Mariachi and Ranchera music of Mexico. The programme has been carefully researched and designed to provide and unforgettable experience of music in which each form of music is represented by some of the most well known and loved melodies and songs within Iberamerica itself and around the world.

  Iberoamerica 2

As well as being a musical journey, Iberoamerica is a journey through the landscapes of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America . It will take you though the arid regions of Southern Spain and Mexico to the great plains of Venezuela. Along the Tropical coast of Brazil and over the Andes of Chile, Bolivia and Peru.

Iberoamerica also charts the journey of the Spanish guitar to Latin America and the musical programme will demonstrate how it influenced several adaptations of the Spanish guitar and its ancestor, the vihuela. Other adaptations emerged such as the Cuban tres, which creates the syncopated rhythm common to all salsa music, the Brazilian Cavaquinho which is a small high pitched guitar common in samba music, the Andean charango which was inspired by the vihuela and was traditionally made from an armadillo shell. It is now used in the folkloric music of the Andean countries of Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. Not to mention the Venezuelan cuatro which is a small adaptation of the Spanish guitar similar to the more commonly known Ukelele although slightly larger.

Traditional percussion instruments are used througout the set to keep the authentic feel and characteristic of the song and to demonstrate how African and Indigenous instruments combined with European melodies and harmonies to create a beautiful fusion.
