Ed was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Ed was given a Venezuelan cuatro (A small 4 stringed guitar slightley larger than the Ukelele) when he was a baby and this was to be the start of his fascination of the guitar and the South American variants of the guitar. He then moved with his parents back to the place of his families' origin, London England. When he was 10 he formally started studying the classical guitar under the tutelage of Peter Tidmarsh. At the age of thirteen he moved to Boston USA where he took up study of the rock and blues guitar with David Newsam of the Berklee College of Music. In the blues he found an art form through which he could express every spectrum of emotion. After two years in Boston he moved back to London where he continued to study blues and rock whilst also continuing with his classical guitar studies.
At the age of seventeen he joined the rock/blues band Blue Ruin with whom he did a number of gigs in and around London. They cut two albums. Ed was then forced to stop playing guitar altogether when he suffered an injury to his left arm. During this time whilst living in Spain, Ed was exposed to the art of flamenco. Three years after he was forced to give up, he was able to pick up the guitar again and immersed himself in flamenco music under the tuition of the highly accomplished flamenco guitarist Manuel Berraquero of Seville. After a trip to Venezuela, his place of birth, he started to also study Latin music. In doing so he was able to put his knowledge of classical technique to flamenco and Latin music where technique is very much finger style playing.
For the past 12 years Ed has travelled extensively around Latin America and Spain taking part in Music study courses and adopting local instruments and doing extensive research into the popular and folkloric music of each region. Now based in London, he plays and teaches a wide range of musical styles including blues, rock, pop, classical, latin and flamenco. Music
